For Aiming High, the final series of portraits for the project, Anderson & Low were asked to depict elite athletes and key support staff for the UK’s most successful sports.
During a twenty–two year collaboration Anderson & Low have created a unique body of work. Highly crafted photographic portraits explore the extraordinary physical endurance and emotional stamina of elite athletes.
Painting and sculpture provide the foundation for Jonathan Anderson (b.1967) and Edwin Low’s (b.1957) investigations across a range of subjects. Virtuoso lighting and painstaking attention to the final print are the hallmarks of all their work.
For their most recent work with athletes, Endure – 'An Intimate Journey with the Chinese Gymnasts' (2012) they developed a loose style and painterly palette for a sensitive documentation of a highly disciplined sport
Anderson & Low return to a formal style and naturalistic palette for the Road to 2012 project. By carefully selecting the locations and meticulous positioning of their sitters they create timeless tableaux to depict athletes and support staff behind Olympic and Paralympic aspiration.
