Paralympic equestrian Anne Dunham was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at twenty-seven and has been a wheelchair user since she was thirty. Although she rode as a teenager, Dunham did not start competing until she was forty. She has since won team gold medals in four consecutive Paralympic Games, and her first individual gold at Beijing in 2008, aged sixty.
‘To be part of a team. To not be quite so much of an individual as I could be when I was younger. To be able to work with others – that is what I would take from it.’
