David Weir is recognised as the men’s top world wheelchair racer. He was introduced to the sport at primary school and first competed in the London Mini Marathon aged eight. In 1996 Weir competed at his first Paralympics at the age of seventeen in Atlanta. Having previously failed to medal he began working with coach Jenny Archer, who guided him to double gold in Beijing 2008, triple gold at the 2011 World Championships and a record fifth title at the 2011 London Marathon.

‘When David came to me and said he wanted to win gold at the Paralympic Games and become World Champion. I said “I’ll take you on. I’ll make you laugh and I’ll make you cry“.
