Phillips Idowu was born and raised in east London and started triple jumping at school. He has held every major title including World Champion and won a silver medal at the 2008 Olympic Games. Idowu moved to Birmingham with his family in 2008 to train with UK Athletics coach Aston Moore, a Jamaican-born triple jumper who previously competed for Great Britain. Their training programme focuses on Idowu’s determination to win Olympic gold in his home city.
‘You look at him. He’s 6 foot 4, and he’s 6 foot 4 all legs.’
