Tom Daley became the UK’s first individual world diving champion after winning the 10m platform event at the World Championships in 2009. Encouraged to swim when he was three years old by his father, Daley started diving at the age of seven. Three years later he was the national under-18 champion. He was selected to represent Team GB at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, aged fourteen. For London 2012 Daley hopes to take one of Team GB’s two places to compete in the individual 10m platform event and the synchronised diving events with his partner Pete Waterfield.
‘There have been lots of inspirational people in my life… people like the Olympic greats, Sir Steve Redgrave, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Olympic heroes.’
