Greenwich-born teenager Zoe Smith started out as a gymnast before finding her true potential when a weightlifting studio opened at her local gym.
She now holds over 300 weightlifting records. In 2008 Smith was invited to Beijing as part of Britain’s Olympic Ambition Programme and was nominated the British Olympic Association’s Athlete of the Year (Weightlifting). In 2010 she became the first ever British woman to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games, and went on to win silver at the World Youth Games a year later.
'Quite a lot of people stand out for me, like Kelly Holmes who worked for so many years to achieve the top of her game.' Zoe Smith
