    As Mayor of London, Boris Johnson received the Olympic flag on behalf of the city at the closing ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

    He has served as co-chair of the Olympic Board with a key role to ensure that a sustainable legacy of new jobs, homes, communities and infrastructure improvements are delivered from London 2012. As the executive of the Greater London Authority, Johnson directs economic development, transport and oversees policing for the capital. Formerly a journalist and editor of the Spectator, he served as a Conservative MP from 2001– 7.
